Question 1

What makes a skiff different from a bay boat or center console?

Accepted Answer

A flats skiff is built to be as light and shallow-drafting as possible — often just a few inches — with a minimalist layout, low freeboard, and a quiet ride for poling and sight-fishing skinny water. Bay boats and center consoles are heavier, draft more water, and trade some of that shallow-water access for more speed, comfort, and stability offshore.

Question 2

Aluminum or fiberglass/composite flats skiff — which is better?

Accepted Answer

Fiberglass and composite skiffs are the standard for tournament-grade flats fishing — lighter, stiffer, and quieter for poling. Aluminum flats boats are more affordable and durable but heavier and typically draft slightly more water, making them a solid choice for casual or budget-minded anglers.

Question 3

How much does a skiff boat cost?

Accepted Answer

Skiff prices start in the low five figures for a basic aluminum flats boat and can run well into six figures for a hand-built composite tournament skiff.

Question 4

Is talking to Capt. Bob really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes — there's no cost and no credit card required to chat with Capt. Bob and get matched with skiff boats from local dealers.
